The home hero got a subtle underline highlight and a calmer backdrop

Two small but considered changes to the marketing home hero:

  • Underline highlight on key phrases in the headline. We added an underline-style highlight as a custom mark, used sparingly to draw the eye to the most important word in the sentence without the heavier "highlighted in yellow" feel of a typical mark.
  • Simplified backdrop. The hero used to layer a gradient over a subtle pattern over another gradient. We collapsed the backdrop into a single layer so the headline reads first and the visual treatment recedes.

If you compare the home page from a week ago to today, the eye lands on the headline noticeably faster. That is the only metric that matters at the top of a marketing site.
